Welcome to Sally McLean Artist

Welcome to my first blog post and to my new website, Sally McLean Artist!

Although it will always be a work in progress, the website is now ready to launch — and I’m excited to share it with you.

My art is ever evolving and where I used to create pastel pet portraits by commission I now enjoy the freedom to explore subjects and ideas that inspire me using mixed media.

Painting with Colour and Texture

I love the versatility of acrylic paint and enjoy combining it with mixed media such as texture paste, gold leaf, metallic paint and, occasionally, glitter.

My colourful artworks are mainly inspired by nature, particularly Native Australian Wildlife. I’m fascinated by the incredible variety of feathers, fur, skin, eyes, shapes and expressions found in the animal world. There is always another wonderful subject waiting to be painted.

Texture paste applied with stencils and a palette knife allows me to add another dimension to my paintings, while vibrant colours bring them to life. I also enjoy experimenting and seeing where a painting takes me rather than always knowing exactly how it will turn out.

Some of my artworks are accompanied by descriptive poems written by me, combining my love of painting and words.

More Than Paintings

My original artworks, archival art prints / reproductions and greeting cards are now available to purchase through my website.

I’m particularly pleased to be able to offer greeting cards featuring some of my artwork. It’s lovely to think that a painting can travel beyond the walls of a home and become a little piece of art shared with someone special.

So, welcome to Sally McLean Artist.

I hope you enjoy looking around, discovering my artwork and following along as I continue to experiment, create and see where my artistic journey takes me.

And yes, there will probably be plenty of colour, texture and the occasional bit of glitter!
